Tips For Wedding Lighting And Adding Décor To Your Wedding
Our latest client Crystal had recently hired us for wedding lighting for her wedding in Orlando, Florida. Like all brides, she wanted her wedding to be special and memorable, and sought our expertise to ensure this happened. We went over a few of our tips for wedding lighting and wedding décor to get her started.
For those in the process of planning their wedding, here are a few wedding lighting tips to get you started.
9 Tips For Your Wedding Lighting And Adding Décor To Your Wedding
1. Color Coordinate Uplighting
Uplighting is one of the popular elements to add to a wedding reception. The great thing about uprights (as well as our LED lights) is you can coordinate the color of your lights with the colors of your wedding, such as the flowers, or your bridesmaids dress color.
2. Contrasting Colors.
Contrasting colors provides dimension to a room, especially one with flat and bare walls. A great example of contrasting colors are a deep amber and indigo blue. You can uplight walls in one color and use gobos of the contrasting color to create a strong visual appeal. The possibilities are endless. Most of the Tylerlight lighting fixtures feature full color mixing capabilities.
3. Rotate Colors Throughout Evening
What has been a favorite with many of our clients is the option to “sync” your lights, and rotate colors throughout the evening. You can start the evening with more neutral colors for photography, and as the night progresses, have your lights turn more colorful.
This provides a dramatic lighting-effect for your special day. Perhaps for the beginning of your event, you want to start with a soft blue, and as the night progresses and the dancing starts, change to a purple, pink or yellow.
4. Use a light haze.
This will only apply to certain atmospheres of course, not so much in an elegant setting. Haze contributes as much as 80% in the overall visual effect in the lighting system, more so in moving beam lights. The beams from the lights will actually appear in the haze, whereas without haze, you only see the light on the hard surface from the fixture, such as the wall or ceiling. You only need a light haze, like 10%-20% output to make the difference, but not enough to make it look like you are in a nightclub.
5. Change Up Your String Lighting
String lighting can serve two purposes for wedding. One is to illuminate your event, the other is to offer a sensual scenery and décor.
String lighting colors range white, brown, black, green, yellow, blue, red, or multi color (arrange multicolored in advance). String lighting offer’s many different design’s, and we will be sure to work with you throughout every step to pick out the perfect design for your wedding
6. Spot-lighting/Moving Lights
Spotlighting is one of the greatest additions you can to your wedding. Not only do they highlight certain aspects of your wedding, they offer a tremendous amount of value to your pictures as well. If you ask any photographer or floral designer, they will be sure to recommend this type of lighting for your wedding.
Spotlights are usually mounted on a pipe base structure and dimmed to your liking. As we’ve done with our other guests, we will go over the brightness of the lights before your wedding, ensuring they set the tone and mood you wish.
Moving lights provide quick focus and adjustment during the event phase of your wedding. Since physical adjustment is not necessary, moving lights can easily be controlled via a remote control console. It is wise to use these in tight setup timeframes. Labor can be reduced, making up for the increased costs of renting the moving lights. Tylerlight has many moving lights in stock, such as the award winning Martin MAC Aura, Martin MAC 350 Entour, HES Technospot, a variety of Elation moving lights, and more.
As seen below, the moving lights are great to add an extra element to the dance floor. Spotlighting is great for when you and your husband have your first dance, and all the focus will be upon you. After all the time and effort you put in deciding upon that perfect cake, beautiful flowers, details in your center piece, and all the other decisions you’ve made for your wedding, shouldn’t they stand out?
7. Use battery powered lights
Battery powered lights are ideal for occasions that lasts 6 hours or less. It doesn’t pay to have lights that require power for a short event. Rather than dealing with the hassle of finding outlets and dealing with cables, cable free battery LED environment just require the flick of an on switch to be ready for your wedding.
Today, battery LED lights are just as bright as traditional plug in lighting, they can change to any color, and last anywhere from 6-8 hours on a full charge. Setup time is also reduced, which saves on labor as well.
8. Float Candles in Water
These are not a form of event lighting, but still a great tip for your wedding lighting and décor. Working great along side of uprights, floating candles in water set a very sensual tone for your wedding, and take your center pieces to the next level. The best part is, compared to other costs of a wedding, these are very inexpensive upgrade that add tremendous value.

9. Suspend Candles From Floral Arrangements
Suspended candles from your floral arrangements will add a unique aesthetic appeal to your wedding. Our client Crystal said these remind her of little fireflies. These have a great effect for any early summer wedding, and work great along said dimmed yellow uprights.
